Female Friendly Sport & Recreation Participation Infrastructure Strategy 2022-23

Completed: 2022

Client: Moorabool Shire Council

Through extensive stakeholder engagement including focus group sessions, community surveys, literature reviews and facility audits, the Female Friendly Sport & Recreation Participation & Infrastructure Strategy was created. The development of the Strategy uncovered the needs of women and girls from a range of diverse and intersectional backgrounds, residing in Moorabool Shire.

The Strategy identified key actions and priorities that would see meaningful change for women and girls, including:

  • Improving access to facilities, path networks and public transport and the delivery of more activities that are affordable, at convenient times and appeal to women and girls of any age and ability.
  • Improving the use of communication platforms to promote activities, programs and providers and celebrate women and girls’ achievements in sport and recreation.
  • Plan and deliver physical environments that are better positioned and safe to welcome, encourage, retain and facilitate women and girls’ participation.
  • Incorporate safer design principles in the planning of public spaces and activate parks and trails through programs and events.
  • Encourage greater representation and leadership of women in all aspects of physical activity.

The Female Friendly Participation & Infrastructure Strategy has provided a road map to encourage facilities, programs and actions that improve opportunities for women and girls to be active in Moorabool Shire.
