Making NAB AFL Auskick accessible for children with disabilities

AFL Victoria has initiated an Access All Abilities Strategy for NAB AFL Auskick, the AFL’s flagship grassroots football program.

Led by Michael Bodman, the insideEDGE team of Lisa Faraci and specialist consultant Nikki Burger will provide professional advice and a collaborative approach to the development of this strategy.

The project is being managed by FIDA Football Administration Manager, Logan Whitaker who has indicated that that Strategy will provide a model for Auskick that supports and develops inclusive Australian football opportunities for boys and girls with disabilities, in an enjoyable and supportive environment.

This project will consider and build on the AFL’s existing Disability Action Plan which recognises that every child has the right to be involved in sport, especially Australian Rules Football.

The opportunities for positive outcomes and increased participation for people with disabilities through the development of an AFL Victoria AAA NAB AFL Auskick Strategy are significant.

The project is now in the consultation phase with feedback being sought from NAB AFL Auskick Centres, Special / Special Development Schools, Government Agencies and other disability service providers and participants.

Delivery of a Final Strategy and potential pilot program is expected in August 2014.
